Wheeler’s New City Vision

Wheeler (1926–2022), during his tenure from 1971 to 1979, completed numerous major infrastructure projects—including the construction of the airport—and his leadership era was regarded as “ Kansas City ’s last golden age .” However, during his later service as a Missouri State Senator from 2003 to 2007, he aspired to launch a new golden era by expanding the city’s influence across 12 states through the “ Global Channel–TES ” initiative. If the vision of turning Kansas City into a hub of precision manufacturing had been realized, Wheeler’s name would be etched in history.
